Friday - A quiet one
Today we have decided to just chill out here at Ranginui's Retreat.
Breakfast was a sausage, baked beans and a fried egg on toast washed down with a plunger of coffee while we did our daily puzzles.
The rest of the day was spent kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and reading our books. The weather is (as always) very warm but there were passing showers and a bit too breezy for long kayaking trips out into the lagoon. The only photo I took was of the amazing cumulus cloud building up just off the coast when were having dinner.
We popped down to the Koru Café for a long black and a pastry later in the morning and bought another loaf of bread. This will get us through to Sunday.
On our way back, Miriam stopped in at the Blue Lagoon to see about booking for dinner and to peruse the menu. She got a very cold reception from the staff on duty (they weren't actually open yet) and came back pretty pissed-off. She did however book us in for dinner tomorrow night because they had closed off bookings for casual guests tonight. When she did get back here and checked the Trip Advisor reviews (mostly very bad) she decided enough was enough. She then rang and spoke to the Manager to tell her what she thought of the staff and cancelled the booking! I then rang and booked a table at The Boatshed instead.
As we were chilling out late afternoon, Dylan arrived showing a solo traveller to her unit who turned out to be nice lady from Auckland by the name of Pat. Since she had just arrived we gave her a few tips about how things worked here. Including the saga of the Blue Lagoon. Since she didn't have any supplies we gave her some of our Tonic for her Gin and she came and had a drink with us.
We ended up including her in our dinner booking and had a very pleasant night at The Boatshed. Miriam had a Goat Curry, I had the Beef Rendang and Pat had Teriyaki Chicken. All the meals were great and we had a very enjoyable evening. We didn't stay for the $100 lucky draw (based on numbers you got when buying drinks) or the Karaoke. Miriam gave our drinks numbers to some locals who seem to be in the bar at the same table every time we go there! I hope they won.
